Organic compounds that sustain life, vitamins are needed in small quantities to ensure a healthy dietary balance. This is primarily since the human body either does not produce enough of them or any at all. It is because of this that we must seek out ways of supplementing our diet with the much-needed vitamins we require. Different vitamins a very different roles and they are needed in different quantities. A good example of this is vitamin D, which we gain from exposure to sunlight. There are 13 known types of vitamins. Vitamins are either water soluble or fat soluble. Food is the best source of most vitamins, though some people may require specific supplements.
